Rangers ‘consider’ bargain £2m deal for ‘outstanding’ attacker after submitting transfer request
The Ibrox team is keeping an eye on the Norwich City star, but before any transfer negotiations can begin, players must be sold. After raiding Norwich City for Todd Cantwell and Kieran Dowell in previous summers, Rangers have done business in the transfer market. Now, another player from Carrow Road has been added to their list of offensive targets. There are reports circulating south of the border indicating that Ibrox scouts are keeping an eye on Canaries winger Abu Kamara as they contemplate making a move for the 21-year-old, as Philippe Clement wants to bolster in the wide areas before the window closes next week.
After making 52 appearances for Pompey last season while on loan from Portsmouth, where they won the League One title, Kamara scored 10 goals and provided 11 assists. Should the Light Blues manager be able to get rid of some fringe players in the next few days to make room for an offer, Kamara is thought to be a more cost-effective option.
Football Scotland claims that the playmaker might be available for as little as £2 million, however any price would probably depend on Govan’s actions in the other direction. Clubs in the Championship will also compete with Rangers for Kamara, who has asked to leave Johannes Hoff Thorup’s team this summer. Personal matters are thought to be unaffected by the two-time England Under-20 international, who has had difficulty breaking through as a senior at the Norfolk club. He has only played off the bench in their first league games this season, thus he has had to wait his turn for first-team opportunity. Despite the fact that he did manage to score in a 4-3 Carabao Cup victory over Stevenage.
Clement is currently scrambling for new signings, particularly in the final third ahead of the August 30th deadline. However, fringe men need to be sold first before any more incomings and Cantwell is one wantaway star they hope to move on after he handed in a transfer request last month. Romanian international Ianis Hagi has a potential option to return to his homeland with Rapid Bucharest eyeing a late swoop, while Rabbi Matondo also looks destined to exit with Blackburn Rovers seemingly now leading the race for his signature
That might be enough to free up enough money for Clement, and if they decide to go after a player with a point to prove, Kamara might be at the top of their list of targets. Last season, Portsmouth assistant manager Jon Harley discussed his qualities with The News, saying, “Abs’ form recently has been outstanding.” He is such a wonderful young man who is very modest and eager to learn. We aim to isolate him in a one-on-one situation because, as a fellow full-back, I would find it unpleasant to play against him. Any full-back would be effective in that role, I’m sure. He has an end product now that he can go outdoors and inside, which, to his credit.
