Negotiations are nearing completion for Rangers defender Ben Davies by Birmingham City. The veteran defender is desired by the high-spending English League One team, and according to Record Sport, the Blues plan to sign the 29-year-old on a loan with the option to buy him at the end of the current campaign. In order to play against Leyton Orient, Birmingham manager Chris Davies is hopeful that the transfer can be completed in the next 24 hours. Having spent time at Preston and Liverpool down south, Davies is familiar with the defender. Philippe Clement will have more flexibility to bolster his own team before the window closes thanks to the transaction. Rangers might bolster once more if Davies joined the Blues, as he is paid a high salary.The move will give Philippe Clement some freedom to add to his own squad before the close of the window. Davies is on a big wage and a move to the Blues would allow Rangers to strengthen again. The Light Blues have already been linked with a bid for Almeria defender Kaiky Fernandes. It has been claimed that Rangers offered around £650,000 for a loan deal with an option to sign him permanent for around £6 million next summer, but that was booted out by Almeria.
