Jorgen Strand Larsen might be fully unlocked by Gary O’Neil if Wolves sign a “sublime” transfer target.

Wolves have multiple reasons to make a strong drive to sign a single reported transfer target before the deadline.

Prior to the end of the month, Gary O’Neil will face a similar challenge at Wolves as the team must add players while keeping costs down.

Even though Wolves made a sizable profit when they sold Pedro Neto and Max Kilman, they still have a tight budget for the rest of the transfer window. Now, Matt Hobbs and O’Neil have to work extremely hard to make sure the team is ready for the 2024–2025 campaign, with one player having the potential to be the difference.

Calvin Stengs from Feyenoord is wanted by Wolves. Wolves had to sell Neto to Chelsea because the winger was offered a deal they couldn’t turn down.

Although O’Neil faces an extremely challenging challenge in trying to replace the Portugal international, one target might perhaps provide the management more alternatives in the future. Journalist Graeme Bailey said that Wolves have “asked about” Feyenoord winger Calvin Stengs this summer.

The 25-year-old, who transferred from OGC Nice to Feyenoord last summer, flourished under Arne Slot, leading the right flank of attack and contributing 26 goals across all competitions.

It would be wise for O’Neil to take a chance on luring the Dutchman away from Feyenoord, since this transfer might provide Wolves more than just a substitute for Neto.

Why Stengs would be perfect for Jorgen Strand Larsen

Recording 18 assists last season, there are very few creators better than Stengs at Feyenoord, as his numbers prove.

The 25-year-old could be the missing piece of the puzzle in O’Neil’s hopes to help summer arrival Jorgen Strand Larsen settle at Wolves.

Though more work is required to bring the former Celta Vigo star up to speed, Strand Larsen has demonstrated that he is capable of being the number nine presence that the Old Gold desire.

This is where Stengs might be useful at Molineux; his background as a flexible creator at Feyenoord might be quite beneficial. The Eredivisie standout, hailed as “sublime” by Serbian Football Scout on X, has demonstrated his ability to blend in with his attacking teammates, most notably Feyenoord’s magical player Santiago Gimenez.

Scouting site Breaking The Lines explained why Stengs is such a good match for the Mexico international, with a description that could fit what Strand Larsen requires to get the ball rolling at Wolves.

Described as a striker who is ‘physically aggressive’, Gimenez pairs well with Stengs due to the Dutchman’s ability to ‘react accordingly’ to the striker’s movements where he can offer a ‘passing option near the striker’.

Strand Larsen’s movement and presence in and around the box is encouraging with the only thing missing being an opening goal, which he was so desperate to secure in pre-season.

Adding a creative master such as Stengs to the XI could provide O’Neil with the perfect match for Strand Larsen, being a player who has already worked closely with a forward of his profile.
