MATCH OF THE DAY
There was a game near the date of the upcoming meeting, played on 27th August 1960. The game finished 3-3 at Stamford Bridge, where Jimmy Greaves scored a hat-trick in front of 41,681 fans.
Chelsea 3 Wolves 3 11th December 1976 in League Division 2 at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea started the game brightly when a cross from Graham Wilkins going towards Ray Lewington caught Wolves out who cleared it straight to Frank Munro with a heavy touch towards Steve Finnieston who struck the post and then cleared by the Wolves defence for a Chelsea corner.
Then Wolves started a counterattack towards the Chelsea goal when a pass through the middle-found John Richards unmarked near the Chelsea penalty area scored past Bonetti in the Chelsea goal in the 17th Minute to give Wolves a 1-0 Lead.
Then out of the blue Chelsea were back in the game when a poor back pass by Munro into Wilkins the Chelsea player was on hand to head a goal into the net from a Wolves mix up in the defence to make it 1-1 after 19 minutes.
Then after that goal Wolves went on the attack again when Sunderland fed Patching a ball whose shot hit the side netting it could have been a second goal for Wolves.
Another Wolves attack was started by Palmer who headed the ball towards Richards and then passed to Sunderland who put the ball into the back of the net only to be flagged offside another great chance for Wolves to restore the lead in the game.
Wolves took a quick throw from Daley which was passed to Sunderland in the box and did a ball over his head towards Gould who headed the ball into back of the net to make 2-1 to Wolves.
Half Time: Chelsea 1 Wolves 2
Wolves on the 71st minute of the game got there third goal of the game when Hibbitt headed a knock back towards Richards to head home and make it 3-1 to Wolves.
Chelsea chasing the game went on the attack to try and get back into the game hit the post from Lewington so close for Chelsea to get back into the game.
Then a corner in the 80th minute of the game Chelsea managed to score a goal when Britton the smallest man on the pitch headed near post in to make it 2-3 and give Chelsea hope of salvaging a draw in this entertaining game.
Pierce the Wolves goalkeeper has suffered a finger injury in the game and had to have the physios on to check him over and after that happened Chelsea started to bombard the Wolves goal with back-to-back corners and the resulting 2nd corner Chelsea got their equaliser after Pierce did a fantastic save to stop them scoring a goal when Finnieston headed home from 1 yard to make it 3-3.
