Todd Cantwell transfer update from Turkey ahead of Rangers exit
Todd Cantwell’s chances of departing Rangers for Trabzonspor are closing after an update from Turkish sources, according to the Daily Record. The newspaper reported on Wednesday (21 August, page 44) that the Turkish Super Lig side are said to be interested in the 26-year-old midfielder.
Cantwell has previously handed in a transfer request to Philippe Clement [Sky Sports], but the player’s route out of Ibrox could be closing, with a shortage of offers emerging.
Will Todd Cantwell stay with the Rangers?
The Cantwell saga at Ibrox continues to unravel since Clement revealed the midfielder’s stance on an exit during a post-match press conference earlier this summer. Reaction to that moment has not been positive for any parties, with the 26-year-old being made to train away from the first team, and fans making their feelings known about the player.
Cantwell has experienced a mixed spell in Scotland since arriving from Norwich City last summer, though he has been an attacking spark in the manager’s squad since his appointment in October.
That is maybe why many were shocked by the news that the player was keen on leaving the club, especially with the support shown to him by Clement in recent months.
With just nine days left in the transfer window, it is becoming less and less probable that the Gers will be able to find him a new club, despite his wish to continue his career abroad. Rangers’ Todd Cantwell has the potential to be something special, having scored 14 goals and provided 12 assists in 64 games. However, if a move away does not happen in the near future, Cantwell will have to regain the respect of the supporters.
