After years of market neglect, the Rangers finally sign a “really, really good” cheap signing.

Tam McManus claims that Rangers have had great success by bringing in players from within Scotland, having for too long ignored that segment of the transfer market.

The former Hibs striker claimed that former Aberdeen midfielder Connor Barron has been the team’s best acquisition and that it demonstrates that talent is still accessible in the country on The Football Show Live from PLZ Soccer on August 19.

McManus thinks signing the out-of-contract young player has already outweighed the costly transfers made last year, even if the Gers and the Dons have not been able to agree on a sum thus far and will go before a tribunal. “It just shows you that there are players out there at other Scottish clubs,” McManus retorted.

I think the Rangers have been ignoring that for a very long time. They used to frequently sign the top players from Dundee, Dundee United, Hibs, Hearts, and other teams. It appears that they are no longer doing it.

He was the best signing they made out of all of them, yet they signed him for almost nothing.

After spending so much money on the Danilos, [Cyriel] Dessers, and [Sam] Lammers during the previous two seasons, a player from a different Scottish club joins and has shown to be exceptionally talented.

He has quickly gained the affection of the Rangers faithful because he appears hungry and eager to get on the ball and create opportunities. He’s been an extremely wise acquisition for the Rangers, in my opinion.

Connor Barron named Rangers best signing after Aberdeen exit

If Philippe Clement could complete his entire transfer overhaul with low-cost options of Barron’s quality the squad wouldn’t be in the mess it currently was, but there aren’t enough available.

The 21-year-old hasn’t been flawless but as the only summer signing to crack the starting XI from the opening day he has demonstrated enough qualities to show he should be a success at Ibrox.

As a creative combo, he and Mohamed Diomande might be a genuine strength if they were given a more sturdy defensive platform to cover them.

The signing of him might persuade the Gers hierarchy to scout Motherwell teenager Lennon Miller more frequently, and there are already indications that they are [Football Scotland, 10 July].

However, as strikers are still a problem position despite the fact that teams have bought and sold a lot of forwards in previous seasons, their recent success may have been mostly down to the experienced, homegrown players they haven’t signed.

Bojan Miovski was also liked at Aberdeen [Scottish Daily Mail, 1 July] but there is surprise that they didn’t pursue a signing before he made a big-money move to Girona this summer [Premier Sports, 19 August].

And after months of speculation linking Hearts star Lawrence Shankland to an Ibrox switch it now looks like another transfer window will pass without that move materialising, despite being considered among the hierarchy earlier this summer [Daily Record, 29 July].
