DeMarvion Overshown is a prime breakout candidate for the Cowboys this season

DeMarvion Overshown, a 2023 third-round selection, might be a major factor for the Cowboys in the following year. Before sustaining an ACL tear in the Seattle Seahawks preseason game, the former Texas Longhorns linebacker made an impression on the coaching staff throughout last year’s camp and preseason. Against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, Overshown made an impression following a protracted recuperation period. He recorded three tackles in just 11 snaps, including an outstanding one at the line of scrimmage against the run.

Overshown was the second highest graded Cowboys player in week one according to PFF with a 87.5 grade. When asked about his performance, he talked about getting the nerves out and being excited to get back to work.

“It felt good. You get out there and of course you have the nerves running, but that’s before every first play of a football game. Getting out there and being able to do what I’ve been waiting to do for a year, finally getting those butterflies out, it felt good. I’m actually looking forward to practice Tuesday now that I got a game under my belt.”

Overshown has the opportunity to have a significant effect for the Dallas Cowboys this season, despite the fact that his career may not have started off the best. It has been claimed that Mike Zimmer will line up as weakside linebacker in his defense. Eric Kendricks is one of the talented linebackers that Zimmer has developed into a solid player at this level. Kendricks can benefit from having Overshown positioned next to him at middle linebacker as he can gain knowledge and experience from a seasoned player in the league. When combined with his athleticism and tackling prowess, Overshown has the potential to be a significant contributor to the defense in 2024. Maintaining his health and self-assurance following his injuries from last year is his biggest challenge.

While 11 snaps isn’t much, it must have felt great for Overshown, who had to watch his rookie season from the sidelines. He even told Nick Harris of the Dallas Cowboys that while rehabbing, he would go in his garage and swat at flies just to feel some sort of achievement.
He also needs to avoid new injuries, He’s currently a little nicked up but the Cowboys are hoping it is just a minor thing.
