Dak Prescott gives reason for optimism about contract talks, future with Cowboys

The obvious fact that Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys must overcome their current slump in order to start winning postseason games and, eventually, a Super Bowl, has never phased him. However, fans learned on Thursday that Prescott would be willing to talk about the current state of affairs, despite going through a difficult period with his own contract issue and star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb holding out for a new contract. Furthermore, there won’t be an hour-long discussion about Prescott’s free agency signing location after hearing this response. Actually, much the reverse. Prescott told the reporters on Thursday that he believes both parties are capable of “getting things done” and that “good conversations” are currently underway.

There are some excellent discussions going on. There are a lot of positive things happening. Prescott remarked, “I’m really confident that my people and these guys can finish the job. Due in large part to Lamb’s holdout, not much has been discussed lately regarding Prescott’s contract status; yet, the Cowboys need to give it top priority if they hope to retain their franchise signal-caller past 2024. As he approaches the last year of his contract, Prescott may decide to exercise his right to free agency if he is not signed to a new one. Given the quarterback rotation the Cowboys experienced prior to Tony Romo and following Troy Aikman, it seems reasonable to conclude that supporters would prefer not to have a mystery around the position going into the 2025 summer.
