Practice Points: Key players return from injury

After facing the Cowboys in Sunday’s preseason opener for both teams, the Rams were back in Oxnard for the second time in less than a week. This is also the first opportunity to play the Cowboys. The staff writers have provided some brief insights into what transpired on Wednesday: On Wednesday, Deuce Vaughn received some encouraging news. The rookie running back, who had missed multiple sessions because of a hamstring ailment, was back in full pads for the Cowboys’ scrimmage against the Rams. He also took part in full team exercises. This puts him in a position to perhaps play against the Raiders in the second preseason game, which is crucial because Vaughn is embroiled in a bitter competition for playing time at running back.

Dr. Jim Maurer assessed DeMarvion Overshown for a hip pointer on the sidelines early in the workout. Overshown was out of practice for the remainder of the day, but he did not leave or visit the medical tent. Deuce Vaughn returned to the practice field for the first time in over a week after battling a hamstring issue, as he took quite a few reps both in the run game and receiving game. With the running back room competing for spots, Vaughn’s performance in the last week in Oxnard will be big in determining a role in 2024. – (Nick Harris)
Earl Bostick suffered an apparent lower leg/knee injury in the middle of Wednesday’s practice. He was actually filling in for Tyler Guyton at left tackle for a series when he went down and had to be helped off the field and into the medical tent. The Cowboys have already suffered a significant injury at left tackle with Chuma Edoga (toe) expected to miss two months. Bostick is in his second season with the team after spending last year on the practice squad. – (Nick Eatman)
With Bostick down, the Cowboys trying to limit rookie Tyler Guyton and Edoga already out for a while, the team moved Josh Ball from guard out to tackle for the rest of practice. Ball was drafted in the fourth round of 2021 as a tackle but has moved inside over the last two seasons. – (Nick Eatman)
