Eagles CB has hilarious contract advice for Cowboys’ CeeDee Lamb
Star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb of the Dallas Cowboys was still in the midst of a holdout on Wednesday afternoon because he wants to extend his contract. In the most recent episode of his podcast, “Big Play Slay,” cornerback Darius Slay of the Philadelphia Eagles gave 25-year-old Lamb some lighthearted guidance on how to handle the circumstance. Slay reportedly told Lamb, “I know you’re on the rival team, but if you want to hold out, hold out for every Eagles game,” according to Chris Franklin of NJ Advance Media, who wrote this for NJ.com. “Just hold out for every Eagles game, and you can play everyone else.” Just go, I know [Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones] is very invested in that game because he dislikes losing to us.
The Eagles won’t face the Cowboys during the upcoming season until the Week 10 showdown at Dallas’ AT&T Stadium on Nov. 10. While one could credit Slay for already thinking about future matchups versus a division rival, it’s worth noting that multiple reporters and also teammate Micah Parsons hinted as recently as this week that Lamb will receive his desired deal before Week 1.
After Jones, 81, oddly stated last week that he had “no urgency” to finalize Lamb’s agreement, Slay did take a jab at the man. Jones later made an effort to retract that statement, and the most recent information indicates that he is almost done paying his WR1. Regarding Lamb, Slay continued, “I’m all for my man getting paid because he’s one of the best receivers in the league.” Jerry is one of your top players, and you’re not in a rush to give him credit for what he’s worth, so it’s a little odd for him to sit here and say he’s not in a rush to get him settled. To be honest with you, it would be difficult for me to play for such a group or establishment.
Asante Samuel, a retired cornerback, mentioned during an ESPN Radio appearance earlier this week that there seems to be “something going on” with the Cowboys this summer, noting that Jones “loves his players” and “treats them right.” Slay probably thinks that by January 2025 at the latest, he and the Eagles will be able to capitalize on anything Dallas decides to do.
