Cowboys lineman Chuma Edoga out with toe injury; rookie Tyler Guyton could start at left tackle
With a toe injury sustained in the preseason opener, Dallas Cowboys offensive lineman Chuma Edoga is projected to miss at least a month of action. This might allow rookie first-round choice Tyler Guyton to start at left tackle. As training camp resumes, Guyton will work with the starting squad, head coach Mike McCarthy announced on Tuesday. McCarthy added that Cooper Beebe, a rookie selected in the third round, will see first-team center practice. After Dallas’ opening offensive series in a 13–12 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, Edoga did not make a comeback. After their first-round 2011 selection and eight-time Pro Bowler Tyron Smith signed a free agent deal to play for the New York Jets, the Cowboys went into training camp unsure of who would start at left tackle.
Dallas selected Guyton with the 29th overall pick this year, hoping the former Oklahoma and TCU player would start at left tackle. Following Tyron Smith’s injury during training camp, Tyler Smith—the team’s first-round selection in 2022—played left tackle for the most of his rookie campaign. Smith moved to left guard last year and has remained there. The Cowboys’ depth is harmed by Edoga’s loss. The five-year veteran, who started six games in the previous season, can play both guard and tackle. The majority of the first-team center snaps during the offseason and during camp have been taken by Brock Hoffman, an undrafted third-year player.
