Contract details for Ianis Hagi surface when the Rangers decline to deploy him in order to avoid paying him more.

Contract details for Ianis Hagi surface when the Rangers decline to deploy him in order to avoid paying him more.

According to the Daily Record, Ianis Hagi will receive an additional £6,000 per week should his salary trigger the wage increase found in his Rangers contract. The Romanian attacker’s most recent contract, which was posted on the outlet’s website on August 13, reportedly includes a condition that would raise his salary upon reaching a predetermined amount of appearances. Record signing: Rangers positioned for a good landing… Under that agreement, which was signed in December 2022 with Michael Beale in control, the club would have to spend an additional £600,000 if he triggered the higher salary during the remaining two years of the contract. On August 12, Sky Sports revealed the clause’s existence. The 25-year-old is reportedly eager to stay but has been informed he can leave.

Before being transferred on loan to Alaves a year ago this coming week, Hagi made his final appearance and stated, “I’m obviously disappointed by the situation but I respect the gaffer’s [Beale] decisions.” He is this club’s management, therefore that doesn’t mean I agree with them, but I do respect them. I’m just a plain person that loves football.

Philippe Clement freezes out Rangers ace on 99 appearances
It appears highly likely that the trigger comes after Hagi makes 100 appearances for Rangers since he has been left on 99 since a brief outing off the bench against Morton on 19 August last year.

He was packed off on loan after that, apparently against his will, and now Clement has left him turning out for the B Team rather than make use of him in a half-finished senior side.

It is unclear why the team agreed to these terms two seasons ago when he had not yet recovered from an injury that had kept him out for a year, given their current desperation to avoid them. At the time, Beale predicted that Hagi would be a “huge asset” when he returned, but he has only played in 13 games since and doesn’t seem to be going to play in any more.

This summer, high earner Connor Goldson was removed from the wage bill, and it appears that Clement might use the assistance that £6,000 a week may provide. However, if that doesn’t work out, a move to Fiorentina [Digi Sport, July 26] must be made as quickly as possible to put an end to rumors and guarantee a profit. Clement must decide whether to let go of the Euro 2024 participant who is dominating for the B Team or bring him back to the senior squad because he is not useful to him either financially or on the field.
