Rangers have an “advantage” in their pursuit of signing Gustavo Puerta from Bayer Leverkusen,

Futbol Red reports that Rangers have a “advantage” in their attempt to recruit Bayer Leverkusen’s Gustavo Puerta (12 August). The Colombian publication confirmed an article that appeared in the Daily Record on August 12th, stating that Puerta is represented by the same agency as his international teammate, Oscar Cortes: Top Athlete Management. Futbol Red speculated that the Gers would have an advantage over other teams vying for the midfield player, including Anderlecht, Blackburn Rovers, PAOK, and Brondy. It follows reports that Rangers had apparently made an offer for the 21-year-old (Tipsbladet, August 12).

Given the excitement in the air surrounding Cortes’ initial loan stint, it makes sense that there’s a lot of optimism surrounding this potential deal for his international team-mate. At the age of just 21, Puerta has already made enough noise to warrant interest from a parade of clubs.

Even though he only appeared in seven league games the previous season (FBref), he left an impression. In addition, he was training with a team that defied all expectations by winning every game in the Bundesliga. A young athlete can become extremely confident after seeing such success.
For Rangers, it’s all about finding team cohesion. The boss understands that they face an uphill challenge in order to challenge for the Scottish Premiership. So, instead of sitting back on what you’ve got, why not take a chance of some exciting, promising youngsters?

It’s exactly the kind of mentality you need to have at this level and it’s fascinating to see.
