Potential opponents of the Champions League offer £8.2 million for Premier League Rangers

When it comes to strengthening their roster, Rangers have always maintained a watch on the Premier League loan market. Though the Ibrox club is still associated with many names in the south, players like Ryan Kent and Abdallah Sima likely stand out as the best success stories.

Heck, Gary McAllister was only saying last week that the Rangers attempted to get Curtis Jones but were unsuccessful at Ibrox. Strong ties to the Rangers Dominic Solanke just completed a £65 million transfer to Tottenham. However, credible rumors suggest that Rangers may be ready to lose out on a Liverpool midfield player as a team that could face them in the Champions League makes an enticing offer.

Salzburg launch Clark bid
Rangers were linked to Liverpool’s Bobby Clark at the beginning of the transfer window.

Back then it was claimed that Rangers had ‘thrown their hat into the ring’ with regards a potential loan move as Liverpool looked to tie the 19-year-old down on a longer-term contract.

However, given connections to the new boss of the Austrian club, RB Salzburg was acknowledged as leading the pack for Bobby Clark even back then. With the support of the world’s largest energy drink company, Red Bull, Salzburg has named Dutch coach Pep Lijnders as their new manager ahead of the current campaign. Lijnders worked as Jurgen Klopp’s assistant at Anfield for six years, therefore he has a personal relationship with Bobby Clark. The Athletic is now claiming that RB Salzburg has increased their interest in Bobby Clark and made an incredible £8.2 million bid for the midfield player.

The report claims that there has been substantial loan interest in Clark this summer, with the likes of Norwich City and Leeds United name dropped but there no mention of Rangers.

It’s suggested that Liverpool are open to the sale of the midfielder but only if the bid reflects the potential market value of the ex-Newcastle United youth.

Since moving to Liverpool in 2021, the midfielder has made 14 appearances for the Anfield first-team, scoring once in the Europa League.

Rangers Champions League challenge set
Whilst the sorts of fees being banded about automatically quash any notion of Rangers interest, the bid shows what the Gers are up against in Champions League qualification.
The Gers are set to face off against Dynamo Kiev in the second leg of Champions League QR3 with the match neatly poised at 1-1.

With the winners to progress to the Champions League Playoff round, main stage regulars RB Salzburg are one of two sides who could lie in wait.

The Austrians currently lead Dutch side FC Twente 2-1 from the first leg in Salzburg and although Sam Lammers will have other ideas, are favourites to progress to the Playoff.

Should they do so then there is every chance that Rangers will face off against Bobby Clark for a place in the Champions League proper.

Rangers are likely influenced by RB Salzburg as they want to create a more dynamic and fruitful player trading transfer model on the Ibrox. The Austrians are among the wealthiest teams of the twenty-first century as of September of last year; since 2000, they have made about £330 million in earnings through player trade.
