Keith Jackson claims that Rangers are “chiselling away” Ianis Hagi’s transfer value by declaring him unnecessary at Ibrox. Jackson expressed his “beyond bafflement” at the club’s decision to demote Hagi to the B squad while keeping him open to transfer on August 11th, when speaking on Daily Record Sport’s Hotline. Hagi participated in more games at EURO 2024 than any other Premiership player, and Jackson thinks the Gers’ efforts are reducing the likelihood that the Romanian would fetch a high price. “(Hagi) is the definition of a sellable asset, but Rangers are essentially chiselling away whatever fee you might hope to receive by assigning him to the B team and telling us he is not good enough to start in that lineup,” the man stated.

“I’m beyond baffled by it, and I can’t really fathom any argument that would make me understand, for the time being, as long as he is a Rangers player, why he’s not part of that dressing room.“They were talking about a fee of around £3million from Fiorentina.

“The longer the window goes on and the less game time he sees, the fact he’s just been farmed into the B team, If I’m Fiorentina, I’d be saying; ‘why do you expect me to pay £3m for a player you don’t think is good enough for your first team?’ – it’s crazy.”
Ianis Hagi transfer to happen at Rangers
Hagi is one of the few players currently on the books at Ibrox who there seems to be absolutely no way back for, with Philippe Clement seemingly having no place for him at present or going forward [Fanatik, 23 May].

Even Todd Cantwell, who has been roughly slammed for handing in transfer requests [Gary Keown, 11 August], has seen the door left slightly ajar by Clement after his inconsistent performances last season.

But Hagi has not had that luxury, and because a transfer is currently the most obvious and advantageous choice for all sides, the Gers ought to make every effort to optimize the 25-year-old midfielder’s worth. Even after a lackluster loan to Alaves in La Liga, Hagi would have no shortage of suitors for the Light Blues with a Scottish Premiership title under his belt and a last name that is well-known throughout European football [Razvan Plesca, 28 May]. The Romanian’s place in Clement’s reserves will only make negotiations for a transfer with Fiorentina or another team more difficult; after all, if the Belgian is not willing to take a chance on Hagi, then why should any other club?
