Defense falters on final drive, Dallas drops preseason opener to Rams
Dallas seemed to have picked up their sixth interception of the game, but the Rams were resurrected by a defensive holding call. Afterwards, the Rams had great field position after a dubious personal penalty on a tackle, and on fourth down, Bennett scampered and hit Miller Forinstall in the end zone to seal the victory. After a disastrous 2023 campaign, the team was eager to return to the field and play meaningful games. The Rams, their rivals, were in a similar situation and continued to dress their star players like street players. Even though the backups were unable to move the ball much, there were still moments of suspense and intrigue in the game.
Lance’s performance in his first game snaps wearing a Cowboys uniform following his acquisition last summer will undoubtedly be the game’s most important lesson. Lance went 25 for 41 for 188 yards at the end of the game, without any interceptions or touchdowns. His completed passes hardly ever gave the receiver an opportunity to gain yards after the catch; he demonstrated a lot of arm strength but very little touch or accuracy.
