The Rangers season is almost here, and it is safe to assume that the supporters are starting to grow a bit impatient with the transfer window. The Ibrox team will play their first game in the Scottish Premiership this Saturday at Tynecastle against Hearts, and a few days later, they will probably play Dynamo Kiev in Champions League QR3. Although Rangers fans are aware that the games come thick and fast throughout this season, there is a perception that the team’s roster is a little too developed for the forthcoming stretch of games. Even though the transfer market is still open for another month, there are obstacles to overcome because the Champions League squad registration deadline is quickly approaching. Rangers will play Dynamo Kiev/Partizan tomorrow, August 1st, if they sign any new players.
Rangers lose European experience
Rangers still have substantial work to do across the transfer window.
There have been a number of high profile names who’ve left the club in recent months and who, at the time of writing, haven’t been replaced.Whilst Jefte comes in for Borna Barisic, the losses of John Lundstram and now Connor Goldson in particular have left sizeable leadership and playing voids in the squad.
With Ryan Jack and Kemar Roofe also moving on, Rangers have signed inexperienced players like Connor Barron and Hamza Igamane to replace them.
This is big experience, particularly in Eur
opean football, to see walk out the door for nothing and Rangers face a big challenge in Champions League qualification this summer.
With up to £30m on the line for Champions League qualification, and around £4m just for reaching the playoff, the impending QR3 tie has a lot more than just prestige riding on it.
Our season and the rest of our transfer window may very well hinge on it. Rangers are pursuing many transfer targets. A lot of names have been connected to Rangers before this pivotal point in the window. But you can understand Rangers supporters’ anxiety that nothing will happen on the day of the Champions League squad deadline given that nothing has changed. Rangers will obviously need to find a replacement for Connor Goldson, as there have been connections to unattached Scott McKenna and FC Twente’s Mees Hilgers this week.
