Cowboys Defender Now Out for Season After Major Practice Injury

EDGE Sam Williams fell down during practice on Sunday, giving the Dallas Cowboys their first serious injury worry of training camp. It was not good news that the pass-rusher was allegedly in excruciating agony and had to leave the field on a cart while receiving treatment for an apparent knee problem. While supporters were holding out hope, Sunday night’s events validated everyone’s concerns.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Williams actually tore his ACL in his left knee after falling. That was the worst-case scenario because the teenage pass-rusher will now miss the entire 2024 season due to this serious injury. Dallas has suffered a severe blow as a result. Since the Cowboys selected Williams in the first round of the draft, he has been a fairly consistent player off the edge, with 4.0 and 4.5 sacks (along with three forced fumbles) in his first two seasons. Williams was expected to play a bigger part on this pass rush after Dante Fowler and Dorance Armstrong were lost to free agency this summer. And Dallas was counting on him to fulfill that duty because it did not yield any notable results.

Now, Williams absence creates a massive hole on the depth chart. It could be on rookie Marshan Kneeland and 2023 fourth-rounder Villami Fehoko (who didn’t play in a single game as a rookie last year) to step up as depth options unless the ‘Boys add some help here.
