Philippe Clement to make five more urgent signings as Rangers youngsters fail to take chance

According to Derek Ferguson, Philippe Clement desperately needs at least five more fresh recruits because the Rangers’ young players did not seize their chance in the preseason. Vaclav Cerny, a 26-year-old on loan from Wolfsburg, became the Light Blues’ first new addition in weeks on July 26. However, he is only the second experienced player to join the team this summer, following backup keeper Liam Kelly. Despite the fact that Clement’s team has lost all three of its official preseason games, former Ibrox favorite Ferguson does not think players like Ross McCausland have proven themselves worthy of starting in the future. And he knows that more additions must be made quickly because there is not much time left until Hearts’ season begins next week. He revealed to Ibrox News exclusively:

“Some of the youngsters have had an opportunity and one or two have not taken it.

You look at guys like McCausland who’s done okay, but can we rely on guys like that over the course of the season? No.

“So guys like this Cerny, if he’s a top player like we’re tending to hear, we need him.

“But since the season is just a few days away, we need [reinforcements] as soon as possible.” Europe is a huge continent where we are. “With the set of players we now have, we need five or six [to be in] and if we don’t, I promise you that this season will be lengthy and difficult.

Oscar Cortes demonstrated his ability to make an impact during the brief period he was available last season, and Connor Barron’s arrival following his departure from Aberdeen appears to be a very valuable acquisition. However, the Rangers team now appears weaker than it did at the end of the previous season, when it was already in need of reinforcement, after the remaining transactions made before Cerny with an eye toward depth and development. This season, McCausland is projected to play a significant role in the rotation, although Cerny’s presence at wide was required.

Since Sam Lammers has been moved on, a striker is undoubtedly needed, and since Connor Goldson’s departure has freed up additional salary space, this may finally signal an attempt to persuade Hearts to let go of Lawrence Shankland.
