Rangers make a bid to sign Edier Ocampo, who is making waves in Colombia.
Edier Ocampo, a winger from Colombia, has received a signing offer from Rangers, according to Fichajes. Following his announcement that he is leaving Atletico Nacional, Ocampo, 20, is currently “one of the most talked about names in Colombian football,” according to a Latin American news source us website on Thursday, July 25. The Colombian youth international is rumored to have had bids from Europe flooding in for him, but he was left out of Nacional’s most recent match against Millonarios on July 24. Fichajes adds that the right-sided flier, who can play at right-back or on the right flank, has drawn interest from Rangers, Toulouse, and Hellas Verona. Additionally, MLS offers are rumored to have been made to him.
Rangers find replacement for James Tavernier
Rangers’ club captain Tavernier is strongly linked with a move away from Ibrox this summer, so Philippe Clement will probably need to bring in a new right-back.
Ocampo is a right-back by trade, but this season for Nacional he has mostly been used as an attacker, making 21 league appearances from January to July and contributing one assist and three goals. He was not included in his team’s most recent match, a crucial Colombian encounter against Millonarios, which may indicate that his time as a player in Medellin is virtually over.
But if Ocampo was a Tavernier replacement, it would be an almost like-for-like change due to the fact that he loves to get forward.
Rangers and other interested teams are rumored to “value his ability to influence the game from the wings, his speed and his vision of the game,” according to Fichajes, who also claims that the 20-year-old has the “ability to break through and create offensive plays.”
