A Man City analyst highlights the delicate move made by Haaland on the Celtic defender.

Brendan Rodgers and his Celtic team defeated Manchester City, the current English Premier League champions, 4-3 on Matchday Two of the Celtic USA Tour in 2024.

The game-winning goals came from Kyogo Furuhashi, Luis Palma, and Nicolas Kuhn, although the reigning Scottish Premiership champions also had strong performances from Matt O’Riley and rookie Kasper Schmeichel.

Erling Haaland’s header to tie the game at three points came after Oscar Bobb, Maximo Perrone, and the City commentators made a clever assessment about how the towering Norwegian celebrated his goal.

According to co-commentator and former player Andy Morrison, Haaland shoved Celtic’s Liam Scales off-balance as he made his run, giving him the freedom to attack the ball and score.

Morrison added, “Once Bobb sits this up, there’s just a little bump,” during Manchester City’s live telecast. “Scales is just knocked by [Haaland].” Should he fail to knock him first, [Scales] has the ability to leap back into Haaland’s face.

So that’s really smart coming from Haaland.” Although Haaland is undoubtedly one of the best strikers in European football right now, Brendan Rodgers and his team will undoubtedly gain a lot of experience from these high-profile, marquee preseason friendlies as they prepare for the UEFA Champions League, which will be restructured for the upcoming season.

Before Celtic’s home campaign begins on Sunday, August 4, at Celtic Park against Kilmarnock, they will now get ready for their third and final exhibition match of their US trip against Chelsea this Saturday.
