Rangers issued a Champions League warning to Dynamo Kiev while their “Ibrox target” scored a hat-trick.

Rangers learned at the start of the week that they will be playing in Champions League qualification either Partizan Belgrade or Dynamo Kiev. By the midst of it, they had discovered that the Ukrainians would most likely be involved. Dynamo Kiev stunned Serbian team Partizan Belgrade 6-2 in Poland by storming back from an early penalty kick deficit. With neither home team able to use their own stadium, it’s set up what might be a historic draw against the Rangers. While Rangers have moved to Hampden due to renovations at Ibrox, Dynamo Kiev is using Poland’s Lublin Arena as a temporary home due to the ongoing violence in Ukraine.

Dynamo Kiev set up Rangers tie

In a rampant display of goalscoring, Rangers were a fired a warning about the determination and finishing quality in the Ukrainian ranks.

Mykola Shaparenko’s powerful side foot first-half equaliser gave an inclination into the quality in Dynamo Kiev’s side, whilst two scuffed efforts on the brink of halftime to turn the tie in the club’s favour highlights the determination.

Vladyslav Kabayev raced forward and shot a fourth goal low past the keeper in the second half, giving Dynamo Kiev even more reason to smell blood. Even though Partizan managed to score a second goal, it did not calm the Kiev players, who responded in the closing moments to place QR3 squarely in their sights. After a magnificent free-kick attempt was saved, Denys Popov scrambled home the fifth, and in injury time, Oleksandr Phikhalyonok scored the sixth. As a result, Partizan Belgrade in Serbia will need to mount a valiant comeback if Dynamo Kiev is to advance to play Rangers.

Ibrox-linked winger nets hattrick
Dynamo Kiev’s rampant victory over Partizan Belgrade isn’t the only Rangers interest story from the Champions League qualifiers either.

Normally we wouldn’t have an eye on the progress of Hungarian champions Ferencvaros in this competition.

But with Rangers linked to a move for Malian winger Adama Traore, it’s certainly has us following their Champions League progress.

Ex-Sheriff Tiraspol winger Traore is something of an expert in qualification for European football’s biggest tournament and proved so again against Welsh champions TNS.

Hammering in a stunning hat-trick against the New Saints, the Malian winger has star quality at this level and the goals will only pique the interest of Ibrox fans.
With the Ferencvaros winger at the center of a contentious boycott of the Mali national team, it is unclear if Rangers are still pursuing a deal for Traore.
