Liverpool has been informed by Zinedine Zidane of the reasons behind the £55 million switch.

Arne Slot wants to add more forwards to his squad before he makes his Premier League debut, and Liverpool FC has been strongly linked to a summer transfer for Takefusa Kubo.

Though they haven’t yet entered the transfer window, the Reds are nevertheless eager to bolster their lineup on both wings. Among their top goals are to sign a left-sided defender and a replacement for Mohamed Salah on the right wing.

The Japanese publication Sponichi has reported that Liverpool is “preparing” a £55 million offer for Real Sociedad star Kubo, who fits the bill as a thrilling alternative in the final third.

The 23-year-old has garnered a lot of attention in Spain over the years, and Zinedine Zidane has given the Japan international great recommendations.

Real Madrid signed Kubo for three years, and during his incredible loan at Mallorca, then-manager Zidane hyped him up.

“I think he’s having a good season,” the French manager stated prior to Los Blanco’s 2019 matchup with Mallorca. We all wanted him to play more, and he is. Both now and in the future, he is a highly intriguing player. His good health makes me joyful.

Of course, if he were to stay at home tomorrow then that’d be better. But, I wish him the best and urge him to continue like this. His future, though, we won’t decide until the summer. That’s something for later.”

Kubo spent the following campaigns on loan at Villarreal and Getafe before returning to Mallorca. In 2022, the ex-FC Tokyo star then joined Real Sociedad in what has been a fruitful move and his performances at the Reale Arena has seen him linked with a host of top clubs.

Kubo is capable of playing on either wing and also in central areas, having been deployed as a No. 10 and a makeshift striker previously. The versatility of the Japanese playmaker will certainly capture the attention of Liverpool, who are keen to improve their depth in the final third and will therefore be able to ensure that they have cover in several different roles by signing just one player.

It remains to be seen whether the Reds press on with their reported pursuit of Kubo or Slot overlooks the praise of Zidane in favour of alternative options out wide.
