Amad Diallo sends message to Rangers after what he did for Man United in friendly

After the Manchester United winger scored against his old team in a preseason friendly, Amad Diallo sent a touching message to Rangers. On July 20, at Murrayfield, the Ivorian opened the score with a goal in the 39th minute. He then posted a message on X wishing the Gers luck in the upcoming season, and United won the friendly 2-0. Amad played three times and scored three goals in ten Premiership games while on loan for the second half of the 2021–2022 season, during which the Gers won the Scottish Cup. “A real pleasure to have played against Rangers,” the Ivorian wrote in his post. “It was enjoyable for me, and I hope they have the best possible season ahead of them.”

When Amad returned to Old Trafford in the summer of 2022, Gers supporters would know what they were missing out on because of the speed and accuracy with which he scored United’s opening goal. Even though his half-season loan was only temporary, Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s team won the Scottish Cup, defeating Hearts 2-1 in overtime. This made the match memorable for both the club and the player.

While Amad’s major contribution to that match was a yellow card just before the hour mark, he shone in the Premiership, scoring within five minutes of his debut and proving to be a perfect impact substitute.

With the Gers keen to add attacking reinforcements to Philippe Clement’s side this summer [Sky Sports, 15 July], there’s no doubt they’d jump at the chance to re-sign Amad, even if only on another loan.

The likelihood of that occurring, though, is long gone now that Amad is a mainstay in the Old Trafford first team, especially in light of the sell-to-buy transfer strategy that Clement is currently subject to [Sunday Mail, 21 July].
