Rangers boost as Joan Jordan takes Sevilla decision amid interest from three clubs

This transfer window, Rangers supporters are updating their phone screens rapidly with the name Joan Jordan. Ibrox is apparently interested in the 30-year-old Spanish midfielder as the Gers seek to add more talent and experience before the Champions League qualifiers. Although Rangers’ initial offer to sign Jordan on a loan was reportedly rejected, the interest is suppoesedly still there. Fans are waiting for more details as other rumors from Spain indicate that Rangers will try Sevilla’s Joan Jordan resolve with a better offer. According to some new information just released by the Spanish publication Que Deportes, Joan Jordan has finally acknowledged that he would be leaving Sevilla this summer.

Jordan accepts Sevilla fate
As the Rangers reports started to spread, so did news that Joan Jordan has already been told he was surplus to requirements at Sevilla this season.

With the La Liga club stuttering to a 14th place finish last season, the two-time Europa League winner has fallen victim to a transfer cull at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuán.

Prior to Jordan’s departure, the Spaniards had already strengthened their midfield, with Sevilla recently making moves for Saul Niguez of Atletico and Sambi Lokonga of Arsenal. Joan Jordan seems to have “finally accepted” that he will have to leave the Spanish club this summer. However, Sevilla will have to back down from their initial demand that bidders cover the whole £70,000 weekly salary of the midfield player. The Que Deportes source states that other teams are also keeping an eye on Jordan’s circumstances this summer, in addition to the Rangers.

La Liga side Alavés have already had a loan proposal knocked back after failing to meet Sevilla’s wage demands.

Greek side Olympiakos – who are managed by Jordan’s former boss José Luis Mendilibar – are another said to be interested.

Similarly to Rangers and Alavés, the Piraeus club but would need part of the player’s contract to be covered by Sevilla.

Rangers face transfer competition
Joan Jordan certainly boasts an interesting profile as far as Rangers are concerned.

In theory, the technical number eight appears to be a strong contender to take Steven Davis’s place at Ibrox and offer true talent and experience in the heart of the park. Jordan’s decline in play at Sevilla in recent seasons may have alarmed some supporters, but at thirty years old, the former Arsenal target should still be leagues above the typical Scottish midfield lineup. Although Jordan’s departure from Sevilla this summer is certain, it is still unknown where he will move next. The reports arrive at a curious time for Rangers, following Philippe Clement’s request for “extra quality” in advance of the Champions League qualifying match.

Jordan is an ambitious addition, and the Ibrox boss is mindful that Rangers will need more talent and quantity to go through the qualifiers. When questioned about whether his present team is good enough to advance to the Champions League group stage, Clement responded, “We need extra bodies and extra quality to be successful.” “I always think that you can succeed with your team because, in any other case, a team like Brugge cannot defeat Real Madrid. All of them insisted that was not conceivable. But it won’t happen if you don’t think it’s possible.
