Gareth Southgate’s successor is expected to be selected from among individuals from Wolves, Brighton and Birmingham City.

After England lost to Spain in the Euro 2024 final, Gareth Southgate’s future with the national team has been decided.

With the announcement that Gareth Southgate was stepping down as manager of the national team, English football was dealt a serious blow.

The defender, who formerly played for Middlesbrough and Aston Villa, declared his resignation on Tuesday, July 16.

They advanced to two EURO finals and a World Cup semi-final during his eight years as manager, but that run came to an end.

Declaring that it was “time for a change,” Southgate honored the players and staff he had collaborated with during his tenure.

There were already betting markets on who would manage the England national team after Southgate’s official departure. It’s not yet known what the Three Lions’ preparations are for their matchup with the Republic of Ireland in two months.

They could decide to go with an interim manager while Steve Holland and Lee Carsley wait to be named, or they can decide to act quickly and choose a manager before the next team is revealed, which is expected to happen in late August.

Some are debating whether England should turn elsewhere for success, and a number of out-of-work Premier League managers, including Mauricio Pochettino and Thomas Tuchel, have been connected.

Both Fabio Capello and Sven-Goran Eriksson were given the opportunity to lead their nations to victory, demonstrating the FA’s willingness to appoint non-Englishmen.

English names are also emerging, with Graham Potter remaining unemployed following Chelsea’s costly dismissal.

Since then, he has had multiple opportunities to return to football management, but some speculate that he may be saving up for the big role.

There was conjecture among many that Eddie Howe, when he was at AFC Bournemouth, may manage England at some point.

After a dismal campaign the previous year, Howe is currently at Newcastle United and is being charged with taking the team back into Europe. It will be intriguing to see if he would be tempted by the job.

Here are the current Wolves manager and a former Birmingham City captain and manager who are considered the early favorites to succeed Gareth Southgate in the interim.
