Wolves need to move quickly to lock down a possible Max Kilman replacement at a steep discount.

If Wolves want to hire Nico Elvedi, a possible Max Kilman replacement, they need to move fast. Prior to the start of the summer transfer window, Wolves had to bolster several positions. The most noticeable was up top, as Gary O’Neil’s team lacked many strikers until Jorgen Strand Larsen joined the team.

It has become evident in more recent times that Wolves require a defender. The team now only has three veteran center backs after Max Kilman left for West Ham for £40 million.

O’Neil’s decision to play a back three for the majority of the previous campaign presents a significant problem for the upcoming campaign. Kilman’s replacement is reportedly being considered for four defenders, and the window of opportunity to sign one of them is rapid6ly approaching.

The release clause for Nico Elvedi is in effect until the end of July.

Elvedi and Wolves have a long history together. Wolves showed a lot of interest in the defender, who is presently with German team Borussia Mönchengladbach, last summer. Now that Kilman has left the team, this seems to have been reignited once more.

According to reports, Wolves may make another attempt to sign Elvedi, who has a release clause and is only available for €10 million. But the opportunity to purchase the center back for such a low price might end shortly.

Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sports reports that the player’s release clause is only good through the end of July.

Wolves will have limited time to seal the deal and get the defender as a result. Discussions have reportedly taken place, and it is thought that Wolves genuinely want Elvedi. A deal between O’Neil’s team and Mönchengladbach is seen to still be conceivable if no one activates the clause.

Wolves should look to get the deal done for Nico Elvedi

Elvedi is an experienced center-back, therefore Wolves are unlikely to find a better offer elsewhere. The defender would significantly strengthen the team and be a fantastic choice for the team entering the 2024–2025 season.

The 27-year-old Swiss defender has made over 300 appearances for the German team and has a wealth of international experience. In all likelihood, O’Neil should focus on two center backs this summer. If Elvedi joins Wolves with another elite defender, it would be great business.

In the upcoming weeks, hopefully, the club will decide quickly whether to sign Elvedi in order to avoid the Swiss player having to endure yet another drawn-out transfer drama.
