Role Call: Tyler Guyton to be tested early and often

Guyton, a Texas native who attended TCU before transferring to Oklahoma, comes to Dallas in 2024. In total, he has played in 29 games during his NCAA career, so he has plenty of experience, and he can play either right or left tackle, which is what the Cowboys are looking for. The 6-foot-8, 322 lb. lineman earned an honorable All-Big 12 mention in 2023 after allowing zero sacks in 355 snaps as a pass blocker last season, which is nothing to scoff at given the vacuum left by the loss of future Hall of Fame left tackle Tyron Smith on Dak Prescott’s blindside.

Guyton allowed only two sacks on 400 pass blocking snaps the previous year, demonstrating his ability to protect his quarterback even more.

What’s Next: Of course, we’re going back to left tackle. Guyton, who was immediately regarded as the position’s future, has been working feverishly, even before rookie minicamp, training both inside and outside of the Cowboys’ facility to expedite his transition, with the goal of starting on the blindside as early as Sept. 8, against the Cleveland Browns. His physique is remarkable, as is his ability to move his mass, making him one of the more athletic offensive linemen in his class. In terms of run blocking, Guyton can both pull and push.

Did You Know: … that Guyton made it to the NFL, and as a first-round pick, despite being a full-time basketball player until his senior year in high school, when he converted to football?

Quotable: “[It’s] my heart and my mind. I really love football, deep down to the core. I have a mentality of trying to dominate, and that’s what I’m bringing to Dallas.” – Tyler Guyton
