According to a Dallas Cowboys great, the club is lacking one essential component in its quest for a Super Bowl victory.
Former Pro Bowl defensive end Ed “Too Tall” Jones, who was a star for Dallas in the 1970s and 1980s, thinks the squad doesn’t have the experience needed to win a championship.
Jones, who won a Super Bowl with the Cowboys in 1977, believes that in order for the current squad to win a championship of their own, the roster needs to have winners.
According to Bryan DeArdo of CBS Sports, Jones stated, “That is definitely one of the things.” Every year, the team performs too well.
They are a different team in the postseason and win 12 games a year. To further support [Mike McCarthy], allow me to say this. Coaches are only able to do so much to elevate you. Internal leadership is a necessary.
I’m not limiting my discussion to captains. Players will follow this guy in the locker room because he’s been there, done that, and understands what he’s talking about.
Who are they going to follow? Dallas is devoid of it. A number of teams lack it. That is merely one of the issues.
They are also lacking a few horses in important spots, but with the correct chemistry and leadership, you can usually make up for it. Although McCarthy led the Green Bay Packers to victory in the Super Bowl, his team lacks the same caliber of experience.
Cornerback Stephon Gilmore of the New England Patriots was the only notable player on the squad to win a Super Bowl the previous season. For 2024, he has not been reinstated.
The Cowboys lost their home game against Green Bay in their postseason opener despite looking strong for a postseason run.
The team is currently handling some difficult contract negotiations and has not made any significant offseason acquisitions. At the very least, Jones’s complaint has not been addressed.
