Training camp is right around the corner and a potential option is available.
The Dallas Cowboys will take a hiatus before to the 2024 season. The commencement of training camp is scheduled for July 25 in Oxnard, California.
Being America’s Team means that the Cowboys will always avoid the spotlight from the national media, but that is part of the deal.
Anything less than a Super Bowl victory will not enough in Dallas, where the expectation is for a win or a bust. The Cowboys will have a great deal of pressure in 2024—whether that is a realistic aim is a topic for another discussion.
With Ezekiel Elliott returning to the area and Tony Pollard departing in free agency, the running back group has seen some changes.
Zeke appears to be a lead tailback in the backfield, but there is now a different option available on the free-agent market.
Running back Leonard Fournette is a free agent who wants to sign with a team before the regular season begins, according to NFL insider Adam Schefter.
“Leonard’s in the best shape of his career, and I expect he will have a new home soon,” stated his agent Ari Nissim.
Fournette is not the best option in the backfield at this point in his career, but he could play a supporting role in a committee.
As the game progresses, Fournette’s strength as a runner can gradually wear down opponents.
The Cowboys would have two formidable running backs in Fournette and Zeke if they were to sign him. It wouldn’t be very expensive either.
The LSU product’s outstanding postseason play has earned him the moniker “Playoff Lenny.” The 29-year-old has 152 carries for 604 yards and 10 total touchdowns in nine playoff games.
He also recorded 254 yards from 35 catches. If the Cowboys want to add more muscle to the backfield, they might investigate the seasoned tailback.
