Quarterback to be Landed by Cowboys with “Blistering Speed”

Depending on how the discussions with Dak Prescott go, the Dallas Cowboys may need to trade for a new quarterback.

Prescott hasn’t signed a contract extension weeks before training camp gets underway.

Prescott would be a free agent in 2025 if nothing changes in the upcoming months.

In an early 2025 NFL mock draft created by Keff Ciardello of Pro Football Network, the Cowboys are predicted to select Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Jalen Milroe with the 23rd choice in the first round.

The most recent Super Bowl odds determine the draft order.

The analyst explained in a July 6, 2024, story titled, “Keff Ciardello’s 2025 NFL Mock Draft: Carson Beck, Conner Weigman, Shedeur Sanders Go in the Top 10, but Travis Hunter Taken No. 1,” that the Dallas Cowboys, miffed after another lackluster campaign with Dak Prescott, made back-to-back QB selections in this mock draft with a Texas native behind center, Alabama QB Jalen Milroe.

With lightning-fast reflexes, exceptional arm power, and the classic NFL quarterback build (6’2″, 220 pounds), Milroe is the epitome of a leader. Under the guidance of new coach Kalen DeBoer, who helped Michael Penix Jr. follow a similar path at Washington, he climbs into the first round.

Regarding Contract Talks With The Cowboys, Dak Prescott said, “There’s Been Conversations Back & Forth”

A picture of the quarterback on vacation in a walking boot went viral, making Prescott a household name. The Cowboys quarterback has made an effort to ease supporters’ concerns by clarifying that it was a preventative measure.

Regarding Prescott’s future, the quarterback acknowledged that “there have been back-and-forth conversations” between the Cowboys front office and his representatives. Prescott made it clear that the forthcoming season, not his next contract, is his main priority.

Yes, there have been back-and-forth talks, but generally speaking, as you are all aware, I’m going to let my agency handle it, particularly as we approach training camp,” Prescott told reporters on July 9.

On the first day of training camp, my focus shifts to clearly supporting my team and doing everything in my power both on the football field and within the organization to ensure that everyone around me is performing at their best and that I am performing at my best.

And as always, the money and everything else will take care of itself.

The problem is that, unless the Cowboys’ season goes horribly wrong, the best quarterbacks in the 2025 class will probably be taken before the franchise is allowed to play.

This is especially true if there is still no resolution between Prescott and Dallas. Even still, it would be shocking if Prescott did not sign a new contract with Dallas in the end.

During the previous season, Milroe completed 65.8% of his passes for the Crimson Tide, throwing for 2,834 yards, 23 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions.

With 531 running yards and 12 touchdowns in 2023, the quarterback’s legs will also be a threat. In the 2025 NFL Draft, Milroe is by no means a lock to be chosen in the first round.

The Athletic’s Dane Brugler does not have Milroe going in the first round in his early mock draft. Only three quarterbacks crack Brugler’s first round: Carson Beck (Georgia), Quinn Ewers (Texas) and Shedeur Sanders (Colorado).
