Why Wolves Are Looking to Replace Max Kilman with Nico Elvedi

This summer, Wolverhampton Wanderers will make a second attempt, per Bild, to recruit Nico Elvedi of Borussia Monchengladbach.

With Max Kilman’s departure, the Midlands club needs defensive reinforcement during current transfer window.

West Ham, led by former Wolves manager Julen Lopetegui, completed a £40 million transfer for the Wolves defender last week.

Now, in order to improve on their 14th-place performance from the previous season, Gary O’Neil’s team needs to fortify themselves.

This summer, they have already added four new players, including a loan agreement, but they still need more help.

Wolves “Rekindle” Interest in Elvedi

Following a botched transfer a year ago, Wolves is supposedly showing renewed interest in Swiss defender Elvedi, according to new sources this week.

The Premier League team reportedly had an agreement with the player for a long time, but they were unable to get a deal done with Monchengladbach and eventually dropped their interest after a managerial change. This information comes from the German newspaper BILD.

They now claim that Elvedi will return to their plans this summer as a result of Kilman’s move to West Ham. The defender’s contract allegedly contains a €10 million release clause that runs out in 2027.

BILD assert that Wolves shouldn’t have any financial difficulties because of the money recovered for Kilman. Elvedi was included in Switzerland’s Euro 2024 roster, but he did not play a single minute for the team.

Over the weekend, the team was eliminated on penalties by England in the quarterfinals.

The official Bundesliga website has likened the 27-year-old defender to John Stones. He progressed through the levels at Zurich, his home club, before joining the first team in 2014.

He joined Monchengladbach of the Bundesliga a year later in 2015, and in his nine years in Germany, he has made over 300 appearances.
