Why DeMar DeRozan Is Said to Have Selected Kings Above Heat and Other Options

DeMar DeRozan was acquired by the Sacramento Kings in a trade with the Chicago Bulls, which was a big offseason addition.

The seasoned guard is headed to Sacramento to join players such as De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis in an ever-intense Western Conference playoff race.

The 34-year-old was being pursued by more than just the Kings.

Shams Charania claims that DeRozan was forced to choose between joining Sacramento and being traded to the Miami Heat.

DeRozan is a native of California, and he decided to move back home to live on the West Coast again.

DeRozan’s hometown team, the Los Angeles Lakers, who are trying to further fortify their squad and make another run at a title, did not make a “real” offer to the Bulls, said Charania.

DeRozan attended USC during his collegiate career and has never made an appearance on the West Coast in his NBA career, playing for the Bulls, Toronto Raptors, and San Antonio Spurs.

DeRozan has a three-year, $70 million contract that expires in the 2026–2027 season. He is currently in the first season of that agreement.

His averages in his final season in Chicago were 24.0 points, 5.3 assists, and 4.3 rebounds. He averaged more than 20 points for the eleventh consecutive campaign.
