Tottenham has reduced the number of strikers on its list to replace Harry Kane by two.

According to reports, Tottenham Hotspur has identified Ivan Toney of Brentford and Santiago Gimenez of Feyenoord as possible Harry Kane successors.

Last summer, Kane decided to finalize his transfer to German powerhouse Bayern Munich, meaning Spurs lost their all-time leading goalscorer.

Even though the England captain left the North London club almost a year ago, Tottenham has still not found a successor for him.

Richarlison and Son Heung-min, the two Spurs forwards who scored 11 and 17 Premier League goals respectively, were Ange Postecoglou’s primary alternatives.

Although those are decent stats, Postecoglou intends to bring in a new number nine before he begins his second season as Tottenham’s head coach.

Gimenez and Toney are presently considered by Tottenham to be their two “ideal replacements” for Kane, according to Football Insider.

Gimenez is reportedly a longtime favorite of Spurs, although Toney is a desirable alternative because of his extensive Premier League background.

Gimenez, who was previously connected to Arsenal, has a deal with Feyenoord that runs through the summer of 2027.

Toney’s contract is slated to expire at the end of the 2024–2025 season, therefore Brentford is expected to consider bids for him.

Previous reports have suggested that even with the possibility of Toney moving on a free transfer the following summer, the Bees may still demand £60 million.

Toney and Gimenez: how do they compare? After finishing the 2023–24 season as the Eredivisie’s top scorer with 23 goals in 30 league games, Gimenez is drawing a lot of attention. The 23-year-old joined Ajax from Cruz Azul in January 2022 and has scored 49 goals in 86 competitive games overall.

With just four goals in 30 appearances for Mexico, Gimenez has not been able to carry over his home form to the international arena.

Gimenez’s lackluster Copa America campaign notwithstanding, Toney has received praise for his role in helping England compete at Euro 2024.

The Brentford player assisted on the game-winning penalty in the quarterfinal match against Slovenia.

He then scored one of the five penalties in the shootout victory over Switzerland on Saturday. Unlike Gimenez, Toney had a challenging 2023–24 season. He was suspended from betting for the first half of the season before managing four goals in 17 league games.

Toney has, nevertheless, made an impression throughout his tenure with the Bees, tallying 72 goals in 141 games across all competitions.
