Nottingham Forest has called the storied old stadium home for 125 years, and the team will likely remain there going forward.
You won’t ever be able to change who I am, no matter where I go or go.
For those of you who support Nottingham Forest and are not familiar with these words, they were once suspended from the Trent End during one of the many amazing pre-game shows the Forza Garibaldi fans club has given us over the years.
This one specifically occurred prior to a Championship match against Birmingham City in August of 2018 (a 2-2 tie with an equalizer by Daryl Murphy in the 87th minute, if you’re asking…).
It just wouldn’t have been right to move to Toton and play beyond the city limits, and it would have put the club’s legacy and soul in jeopardy. Thus, the message that was sent on Trent End in 2018 seems even more relevant today.
The club has reached an agreement to purchase the freehold of the ground from landowner Nottingham City Council, so there’s a general sense of relief that the Reds administration has listened to the majority of supporters and set aside the political posturing.
The romance around the City Ground is at the center of a lot of things. Every fan has fond memories of their very first home game, and the excitement that arises the morning of a major game is indescribable.A night spent with the lights on.
There it is, glittering at the top of Trent Bridge, along with the program salesmen and the lingering hotdog vans on the approach.
We have been coming to this spot on the river, which we call home, for 125 years. We’ve fielded some really outstanding teams and played some outstanding football.
We have seen a lot of heroes along the banks of the River Trent, and the 1959 FA Cup winning team seems like a decent place to start.
