Sheffield Wednesday take action in Rangers transfer pursuit as EFL competition emerges

That’s according to Football Insider, who also provide an update on the cost of signing the 26-year-old during this summer’s transfer window. Wright has been with Rangers for three and a half years, after joining from Aberdeen during the 2021 winter transfer window. Since then, the winger has made 117 appearances in all competitions for the Scottish giants, scoring 12 goals and assisting seven times.

However, rumors last month claimed that Sheffield Wednesday are interested in signing the winger, and it appears that the Championship club has now made their move as they seek to complete a deal.

According to the most recent update, the Owls have now offered Wright a contract as they work to finalize a deal for the winger. The 26-year-old is now in the penultimate year of his Rangers deal, so this summer could be his last chance to cash in. It is consequently speculated that the Scottish giants will take a six-figure fee for his services in the current window, implying that he may cost less than £1 million to sign. Even so, Sheffield Wednesday may not have it all their own way in negotiating a deal for Wright.

It is claimed that a number of other Championship and League One clubs are now showing an interest in signing the winger ahead of next season.

After their great escape from relegation from the Championship last season, Sheffield Wednesday have already made seven signings this summer as they look to climb the table this time round.
