Keith Jackson believes that the Rangers should concentrate on bringing in more “experienced recruits” during the second round of their summer transfer market.
Jackson stated that while the club needs to bring in more experienced heads, adding five young players could prove to be “shrewd business” in a piece that appeared on page 49 of the Daily Record’s print edition on July 8.Jackson called Philippe Clement’s emphasis on young signings a “fishing expedition,” but he also stated that “three or four” senior gentlemen are needed and that the Gers squad still lacks players who aren’t only players for the future.
So far this summer, Clement’s team has signed six players; only three of them have ever competed in the Premiership, and only one, former Motherwell goalkeeper Liam Kelly, is older than 21 [Sky Sports, May 22].
Jackson certainly has a point about the kind of additions Clement has to make at Ibrox this summer, but the Belgian’s squad overhaul still has some way to go before he’s pleased [Chris Jack, 6 July]. Rangers rebuild is expected to involve several additional moves.
The three new arrivals for the Gers are unknown quantities for elite defenses, even though Kelly, Connor Barron, and returning loanee Oscar Cortes all have Premiership experience heading into next season.
At Ibrox, Hamza Igamane may surprise everyone with his attacking abilities, and Clinton Nsiala and Jefte could offer the steely, determined mindsets that were missing toward the conclusion of the previous season [Daily Record, 3 July].
By the end of the window, the Light Blues’ roster rebuild may include ten players.
Although the team is currently pursuing young players, Kenny McLean and other more experienced players have also been strongly linked [Chris Jack, 7 July].
It is unclear how quickly the club will bring in the remaining players, both young and experienced, but with the new season quickly approaching, Clement will want to wrap up his business as soon as possible.
