On the third day of the preseason, everyone was hearing Curtis Jones’ name throughout practice, and the midfield player had already made an impact on his new head coach.
Jones was chosen in England’s preliminary Euro squad prior to his summer break, but he only started one of Liverpool’s final six games of the season.
The 23-year-old was one of the first players back for preseason, and video from his third practice under Arne Slot gave hope for his future campaign.
Jones was praised by his teammates and the coaching staff for his pressing and finishing when playing on the outside pitches of the AXA Training Centre.
From the sidelines, “good timing, Curtis,” and “good work rate” were freely exchanged as Sipke Hulshoff, Slot’s assistant, and Slot observed and commented throughout.
During Sunday’s practice, which was captured on tape by the club, the head coach was heard calling “Curtis” by name several times. This might have been either a compliment or a directive.

Harvey Elliott participated in the meeting, and Wataru Endo and Mohamed Salah won’t report until the beginning of the next week.
