NFC East news: Giants star gives an opinion Saquon Barkley leaving the team
Earlier this year, New York Giants outside linebacker Kayvn Thibodeaux wasn’t bashful in sharing his opinion that the organization should have paid running back Saquon Barkley his worth before paying quarterback Daniel Jones. They didn’t, so the former Penn State standout moved to Philadelphia, the Giants’ biggest division opponent. So how does Thibodeaux feel about having to face his former teammate twice a year? “It’s a business at the end of the day.” “I never really took it hard,” he admitted on the Rich Eisen Show. “I reached out to Barkley…” This is a ‘not-for-long’ league, so get paid while you can. “We’ve seen that with previous contracts and past players, so I’m satisfied.
After the departure of team captains Barkley, Xavier McKinney, and Julian Love, Eisen inquired about Thibodeaux’s interest in learning about the business side of the game.
Eisen then asked Thibodeaux, who has previously expressed an interest in learning about the business side of the game, what the message he received in the locker room when the organization released Barkley, safeties Xavier McKinney, and Julian Love–all of whom were team captains. “Depending on how they perceive long-term contracts and how they intend to create the team, [the contracts] may or may not fit in. Even (when) you gaze at me, correct? We just paid Brian Burns, so trying to secure a big contract within the next few years may or may not be in the best long-term interests of the team.”
