Serious interest’ – Club held talks to sign Rangers player, have funds ready
Last month, Netherlands Transfer Watch claimed that Rangers’ Sam Lammers is poised to return to FC Utrecht after Philippe Clement’s team loaned him out for the second part of last season. The striker was a standout for the Eredivisie club, scoring 11 goals and providing three assists in 20 appearances. According to Transfer Watch, Utrecht is finding it tough to sign the 27-year-old due to his pay request and Rangers’ demands to sell him.
This could open the door for AZ Alkmaar to try and secure the Rangers player’s services this summer. AZ Alkmaar have already sold Vaggelīs Paulidīs to Benfica for €18m and are in the market for a new striker. It’s claimed they have a ‘serious interest’ in the Rangers frontman, but he isn’t the only name on their list. The report adds AZ Alkmaar have already held talks with several players, including the Dutchman. Transfer Watch have made no mention of the fee requested by Philippe Clement’s side. AZ Alkmaar have funds from Paulidīs’ sale and could help them convince Rangers, if they are keen to sign Lammers this summer.
