Jurgen Klopp believes Wolves are “really good” in a four-team competition for an £87k-a-week target.

Three other teams are vying with Wolves for the player who has recently been connected to them. At Molineux, the summer has been fruitful thus far as Gary O’Neil and Matt Hobbs aim to get the team as ready as possible for 2024–2025.

Following a season marred by injuries in 2023–2024, O’Neil is hoping for a larger roster in 2025.

Due to the manager’s forced substitution of players who had sufficient experience, Wolves lost momentum and ultimately finished 14th in the Premier League. Arthur Melo of Juventus appears to be attracting interest from Wolves right now.

But the club will not have a straight run at the Brazilian should they wish to make a move.

Wolves target Arthur Melo has three other clubs chasing himArthur isn’t in Juventus’ plans for the upcoming campaign, despite rumors that Wolves had made an enquiry about him over the weekend.

The 27-year-old was on loan at Fiorentina for the previous season, and they had the option to buy the South American.

However, they were unwilling to exercise their option. Arthur, who is reportedly paid about £87,000 a week, will now rejoin Juventus, but as he is not part of their plans, it is likely that he will depart shortly.

Federico Pastorello, the player’s representative, is quoted by Tuttosport as saying: “We know that he is not part of Juve’s plans, we are working to find the best solution.” And it appears that he has no shortage of possible suitors at the moment.

Tuttsport have reported that Wolves are in the mix to sign the former Liverpool loanee, but also in the race are Everton and Newcastle United. And then, there is further interest from Turkish giants Galatasaray.

It would be a gambleArthur, who returned to form at Fiorentina last season, could be a target for Wolves this summer.

It will be intriguing to watch if that happens. Since joining Juventus in 2020, when Miralem Pjanic moved to Barcelona in the reverse direction, he has not had a nice time there.

English football supporters might recall that in 2022–2023, he spent a period with Liverpool. Soon after he signed, Jurgen Klopp called him “a really good footballer,” but he had a difficult time on Merseyside.

Due to health issues, he was limited to one 13-minute cameo appearance throughout the season.

Given his previous experience in England, Wolves may view him as a bit of a risk given their current lack of need for another midfield player.

However, if Joe Hodge leaves on loan once more, O’Neil may want to consider a fifth alternative. Having said that, Arthur did manage to get back on track last term, totaling 48 appearances.
