Connor Barron talks about the legendary Ranger he “looked up to” and idolized as a child.

The ex-Aberdeen midfielder would love to follow in his footsteps as penning a four-year deal at IbroxPaul Gascoigne wasn’t even a kid when Connor Barron was making waves at the Rangers.

However, the new guy on the Rangers has admitted that as a child, he looked up to the England legend. Barron, 21, was first exposed to the genius of the Geordie playmaker by his father, and he used to watch YouTube videos of Gazza’s midfield sorcery.

Former Aberdeen starlet Barron aspires to achieve the kind of success that former Newcastle and Spurs legend Gascoigne did, having won four trophies in less than three years in Glasgow.

When Connor Barron was making headlines at the Rangers, Paul Gascoigne wasn’t even a child. Still, the new Rangers player acknowledged that he was inspired by the England icon when he was younger.

Barron, 21, saw YouTube footage of Gazza’s midfield magic when he was younger and his father initially introduced him to the talent of the Geordie maestro.

Barron, a former Aberdeen superstar who won four titles in less than three years in Glasgow, hopes to emulate the kind of success enjoyed by former Newcastle and Spurs icon Gascoigne.

Barron was impressed by Gazza’s masterclasses, but he owes his success to another former Rangers player.

Having played under Kevin Thomson when on loan at Kelty Hearts three years ago, the Scotland Under-21 international attributes Thomson’s success to him.

And Barron disclosed that before to signing a four-year contract, he had been in touch with the fan favorite of the former Govan team.

“I had a very successful spell under Kevin when I was on loan at Kelty Hearts earlier in my career,” he stated. His teachings were excellent, and his preferred style of play fit me perfectly and greatly aided in my growth.

“Under him, I truly had the impression of emerging as a player. During our conversation, he shared with me memories of his time as a player and his current role as coach.

He spoke only positive things. It’s good to hear from someone of his caliber at the club that he’s always available and that he can be reached by text if I need anything.”
