Newcastle United must sell before the June 30 deadline and Anthony Gordon had emerged as a potential possibility
Anthony Gordon has expressed his apparent admiration for Liverpool in the wake of rumors that the team is considering making a trade. Gordon was allegedly ‘near the top’ of Liverpool’s possible target list last month.
But it also stated that, in order to comply with the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), Newcastle may be seeking to pay a sum of money close to £100 million.
After leaving Everton for St James’ Park in the summer of last year for £45 million, he had a great first season.
The Premier League saw the winger record 11 goals and 10 assists, earning him a call-up to the England team for Euro 2024.
As a late substitution, he made his debut for England in their last group stage match against Slovenia.
Calls for the winger to be used more arose after England’s past lackluster performances because of his quickness and ability to take on players.
Newcastle might have to consider offers since they have to sell one player before the Premier League teams’ June 30 deadline, failing which they risk losing points.
The Daily Mail continues, “One avenue that had been explored with Liverpool but talks broke down is selling Gordon, albeit reluctantly.” Gordon was raised in the city and has obvious Merseyside ties, so the Reds may find him to be a great fit.
The 23-year-old acknowledged that, despite his time at Everton, he grew up idolizing Steven Gerrard, the great player from Liverpool.
Growing up, Steven Gerrard was my football hero,” he remarked on The Overlap. “Coming from Liverpool, he was like a God in Liverpool, and he was unbelievable player.”
