Rangers and SPFL to hold talks in days over Ibrox chaos as update emerges
Rangers will speak with the SPFL and potential suitors about their home games at the start of the 2024/25 season in the coming days, according to Chris Jack. The journalist writes on the Rangers Review website (26 June) that there is still no agreement in place for the club to play their home games elsewhere, despite Ibrox being closed for the first month of the season due to delays in construction on the Copland Road stand.
Rangers will only receive the entire list of fixtures shortly before they are made public, and they will seek conversations with the SPFL about prospective swaps and venue adjustments “as a matter of urgency” following that.
Rangers fans are disappointed by the Ibrox disaster
The SPFL has already stated that Rangers will not be allowed the option of simply moving possible home games in August to away games [Daily Record, 26 June], forcing the club to find an alternate venue. With Champions League qualifications taking place, the club faces the prospect of nine games in August, with several potentially scheduled for Ibrox.
But with the season only weeks away and no plans currently in place, fans have been let down by the club and face the prospect of being forced to travel across the country to take their seat in a “home” game.
Fans must be adequately considered in any solution to this chaotic issue, because it is unfair to them, and they are the ones who are missing out and losing money as a result. There is acknowledgment that this is a difficult position to handle and is not the club’s fault, but it is their obligation to solve now, and they must do it right or face increased scrutiny.
