Wolves are already seeking for a replacement for 27-year-old Newcastle target despite rejecting proposal.

Despite having a deal rejected, Newcastle United appear to be on the verge of securing a new defender, with Wolverhampton Wanderers poised to go.

Over the weekend, it was claimed that Newcastle had proposed a player-plus-cash deal to sign 27-year-old centre-back Max Kilman from Wolves, with Elliot Anderson being mentioned as the player the Magpies were ready to trade.

Fortunately for Anderson fans and, by all accounts, the player himself, that offer was declined.

Wolves had already turned down a £30 million approach from West Ham a few days before.

Wolves want £40million for Max Kilman

However, GiveMeSport reports that Wolves are already looking for new defenders, implying that they may be prepared for Kilman’s departure. Newcastle will now have a better understanding of what it will take for Wolves to part with Kilman, and they may return with a bid closer to their £40 million valuation. Eddie Howe is still seeking for another centre-back to join Lloyd Kelly after missing out on Tosin Adarabioyo.

Newcastle fans need to start to accept reality

£40 million sounds a bit expensive to us, but time will tell. It occurs all the time when a player moves to another club and elevates their game, so there’s no reason Eddie Howe can’t do the same with Max Kilman as he has with so many other Newcastle players.

We’d love Fikayo Tomori, but we’re practical and know the chances of it happening are small. We’ve come a great distance in two and a half years, but we’re still far behind the elite teams, and that’s the hard reality that’s becoming clear as we try to entice big players to St James’ Park. We’ll get there as long as the Premier League stops imposing ludicrous restrictions.

Kilman would not be a horrible signing, but he won’t do anything to dispel the gloomy cloud that is forming over the NUFC’s social media presence.
