Wolves are looking for a new striker; but, the performances of one target at Euro 2024 may have prompted Gary O’Neil to reconsider his options.
Wolves’ transfer window has gotten off to a quick start as the Old Gold look to strengthen their roster for 2024/25.
Gary O’Neil led his team to a 14th-place finish, overcoming the club’s schedule with a squad lacking depth, however beneficial adjustments have already been made.
Tommy Doyle has already been permanently signed by Wolves, and Braga winger Rodrigo Gomes has also joined the club.
Brazilian wonderkid Pedro Lima is about to be introduced as a brilliant right-back alternative, but O’Neil’s quest for a new striker is still ongoing.
Wolves target Che Adams was poor at Euro 2024 for ScotlandLast summer, Wolves attempted to sign Che Adams from Southampton on deadline day, but the Saints blocked the move.
The Old Gold’s interest has resurrected this summer, as the striker prepares to decide his future following the Euros.
Scotland’s participation in the tournament has concluded at the group stages, with Adams’ next moves set to be revealed in the coming weeks, which O’Neil may reconsider.
The Euros were uninteresting for Scotland, and much more so for Adams, who had an extremely disappointing tournament.
According to Sofascore, the Wolves target has 59 touches in three outings, two shots, and one massive miss, earning criticism for his lack of commitment in leading the line.
After Scotland was eliminated after a 1-0 loss to Hungary, The Sun gave Adams a 4/10 match rating, saying the striker’struggled’ and ‘presented little threat to goal’.
Gary O’Neil should now question Wolves’ interest in Adams.
While O’Neil appears to be a fan of the Saints striker, his performances in the Euros should have worried the Wolves manager.
Given that the Old Gold are looking for a dependable number nine, the 27-year-old may not be the best man for the job, as his presence in such a capacity was questioned during the competition.
The Scotsman scored 15 goals in the Championship last season to help Southampton reach the Play-Off Final, but his Premier League record is far from prolific.
Adams has scored 25 goals in 124 Premier League games, but his performances rarely suggest he can be counted on to be a consistent Premier League scorer.
From his top-tier record to his disappointing Euro 2024 campaign, O’Neil will undoubtedly be skeptical of Wolves’ pursuit of the Saints ace.
