Leeds United may have to make some tough decisions when it comes to player sales this summer Wilfried Gnonto is supposedly available from Leeds United at a fee of £16.9 million, which Nottingham Forest has reportedly offered.
Over the past 12 months, Gnonto has been frequently connected to teams outside of Elland Road, including Serie A and the Premier League.
Leeds has been eager to hold onto him, and the team was very clear about that last summer when Everton showed interest.
But because the Whites didn’t make it to the Premier League last year, tough choices about player sales will need to be made this summer, and it looks like Forest will be the first team to put the club’s determination to the test.
Africa Foot reports that the club has made Leeds an offer for the Italy international. Nevertheless, it is said that Leeds has not yet reacted to Forest’s proposal; a decision is anticipated shortly.
Gnonto has already stated that he wants to play in the top league, but it is unclear if Leeds will accept the offer or even if they would be open to selling the winger at all.
Not only is the 20-year-old being linked to other men this summer—Archie Gray and Crysencio Summerville’s futures are making news thus early in the season—but if the rumor is true, Gnonto is the first to draw a bid.
The winger, who has been a part of the Whites’ first squad since joining from Zurich in the summer of 2022, had a somewhat up and down season before to this. Under Daniel Farke, Gnonto made 44 appearances across all competitions, scoring nine goals and providing three assists.
However, there were protracted slumps in his play. In fact, he scored just one goal in the first few months of the Championship season after refusing to play in August of last year in an attempt to ram through a deal to join Everton.
Due to his poor play, Farke moved Summerville and Dan James to wide receiver positions, costing him his starting spot in the starting lineup.
But he was able to establish himself in the second part of the season, scoring seven goals in February and March and then scoring again in the April victory over Middlesbrough.
In that period, Gnonto has also lost his spot in the Italy team; the winger’s 13th and final cap came during the team’s victory against Ukraine in September. Since then, he has been reduced to the U21 team for the country.
Since making his Premier League debut under Jesse Marsch’s tutelage, the youthful player has made 72 appearances.
His most notable goals came in the FA Cup against West Ham United, Manchester United, and Cardiff City in his first few months with the team.
