Philippe Clement primed for another new Rangers signing to replace exit-bound first team ace

Liam Kelly’s move to Rangers now only has “small details to be ironed out” before it can be completed, Four Lads Had a Dream reports.

The Gers outlet reported via Twitter on 18 June that the Motherwell keeper is now “close to completion” as he closes in on a return to Ibrox.

He is slated to replace Robby McCrorie in Philippe Clement’s team, since last season’s second choice is expected to leave the club this summer. Since the end of the season, the Gers have added Jefte, Oscar Cortes, and Clinton Nsiala, with former Aberdeen midfielder Connor Barron apparently on the verge of signing [Sky Sports, 18 June]. Liam Kelly is likely to return to Rangers to replace Robby McCrorie Bringing Kelly back appears to make sense all around and would help to soften the blow of McCrorie’s long-awaited exit.

The latter has declined a contract extension at Ibrox and plainly has to establish himself as a regular starter elsewhere. Assuming Jack Butland remains in Glasgow, he will not play for the Light Blues, as the Englishman is undoubtedly Clement’s finest player. The threat of significant Premier League bids makes it a difficult balancing act this summer, while Butland hasn’t indicated that he wants to do anything other than stay, and according to Alan Nixon (28 May), a market in England has yet to form.

Liam Kelly’s agreement is nearing conclusion. Only a few specifics remain to be worked out, but he would return to challenge Jack Butland and replace Robbie McCrorie, who is poised to go in quest of first-team football.

Kelly qualifies for home-grown status in Europe.
