Did Cowboys’ moves on Tuesday prove that some things never change?

The Dallas Cowboys front management promised us they will be all-in this season; did anyone believe them, as I did? Instead of doing that, instead of not re-signing CeeDee Lamb or Micah Parsons, the team made two transactions yesterday!

They returned to the United Football League and signed two defenders: Gareon Conley and Willie Harvey. That is all well and good. The precise details on how much they paid for these two men and how long they signed them have yet to be disclosed, but is anyone surprised that they chose to stay inexpensive and try to bring these guys in with the hope that both end up like KaVontae Turpin and Brandon Aubury? Sure, it worked before. As previously stated, the Cowboys now have possibly the finest kicker in football in Aubury, and Turpin is a Swiss Army Knife who has evolved into one of the best return ers in the game, but we can’t expect Harvey and Conley to carry this team to victory.

Harvey led the UFL with 76 tackles in 2024, including a second-best nine tackles for loss.

He was All-UFL and will help out with the linebacker room, but this isn’t prime Ray Lewis the Cowboys are adding to the roster.

Heck, who knows if he will even make the final 53-man roster? As for Conley, he played for the D.C. Defenders in the UFL this year and was a Raiders first-round pick in 2017.

He spent two full years with the Raiders and then was traded to the Texans during the 2019 season.
To their credit, it has worked for the past two years, but this isn’t Derrick Henry or someone like waiting for them to sign. They had the option of making the cap space, but they chose not to. They have failed to sign their two best players to extensions. They refuse to spend money.

It got me thinking: when was the last time this front office made a major offseason signing? They traded for Amari Cooper, who has not been signed, but what about Darren McFadden and Greg Hardy? You would expect a club that should compete for a championship every year to desire to improve. I loathe the Philadelphia Eagles as much as everyone else, but oh… I wish we had their front office!
