Rangers should beat Celtic to the Bristol City transfer agreement, says Alan Hutton.

Alan Hutton discussed Tommy Conway’s potential move from Bristol City to Rangers

Alan Hutton believes Conway would offer Rangers something different, bringing value to the team at the right price.

Tommy Conway, a teenage Scotland international, is attracting transfer interest after an outstanding 2023–24 Championship season at Bristol City.

The Bristol Post reports that Wolves, Celtic, and Rangers, two of Scotland’s biggest clubs, are interested in signing the 21-year-old this summer.

It appears that the Robins will face a plethora of more interest in their academy product in the months to come.

The forward from Taunton only has a year left on his Ashton Gate contract.

It’s expected that Bristol City will need to sell him this summer in order to keep him from leaving for free the following summer, since Conway is unlikely to sign a new contract.

The Robins may choose to go with the highest bidder in order to maximize any possible profit in light of this.

While losing Conway this summer is not ideal, it’s better for the team than nothing at all because if he’s not sold now, he’ll probably depart for free the following season.

Tommy Conway, in Alan Hutton’s opinion, would be a fantastic addition to Rangers.

Alan Hutton, a former Scotland and Rangers defender, thinks Conway would make a wonderful addition to his old team and that the youthful Scotsman would bring something unique to the attacking players at Ibrox.

Hutton stated, “For the right price (he would be a good signing), but if I’m being honest, I think it will be a decent price,” in an interview with Football League World.

“So far, I really appreciate what I’ve seen from him. To be very honest, I didn’t know a much about him prior to his inclusion in the Scotland team.

Although he did score twelve goals for Bristol City, he offers Rangers something unique.

Conway intrigues me because he likes to enter from behind, while Dessers and Danilo are the opposite—they want to get forward, link up, and have their backs to the goal. He ticks a lot of boxes for Rangers and brings something distinct to the team, in my opinion.

He works incredibly hard and is composed with the ball at his feet in front of goal. “It would be interesting to see what the fee is and whether they can get it over the line or not. I would love to see him there. They need someone like that.”

Any team would be devastated to lose a player of Conway’s caliber, but it appears like Bristol City will have to make a financial purchase this summer, which will annoy everyone at the club.

The leadership of the Robins would have preferred in a perfect world for Conway to sign a new, long-term contract at Ashton Gate to provide them some stability, but it appears that ship has sailed and they will have to sell him.

Conway, who entered the club’s academy in 2009, is undoubtedly one of their own, so losing him will be painful, but they cannot risk losing him for nothing the following summer—that would be devastating.

Positively, the team should fetch a respectable price for the attacker this summer, which means they can use it to bolster the rest of the team and offer manager Liam Manning more money for transfers.

Although the 21-year-old was not used as a substitute in Scotland’s 5-1 loss to Germany, everyone at the Robins will be hoping that Conway contributes for Scotland in the tournament’s later stages. Conway’s value will only rise with strong showings at the European Championship.

Although losing the forward, who was born in Taunton, this summer is not ideal, it is preferable to losing him for nothing the next season.
